Here at Bushman Thoroughbreds, we don’t often talk numbers. But this month, we have something beautiful to celebrate. It’s a story worth telling in full: the latest filly to join our band. We’re truly delighted to share her with you.
The Bushman Team attended the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and we met a filly we simply weren’t willing to lose. We went to $340,000 for Hip 1021, a filly by Curlin out of the stakes-winning mare, Josie. She comes home to us as Norah’s code. She is a gorgeous horse, and one of the more striking fillies to come through that week.
Followers of our sport will need little introduction to Curlin. This two-time Horse of the Year is one of the most in-demand stallions in the United States. He passes on a level of class that comes along once in a generation. He has sired over 150 graded stakes winners – among them Breeders’ Cup champions Malathaat, Idiomatic, and Elite Power – and his daughters have a way of out-earning his sons on the track.
On the other side of the pedigree, Josie backs it up. She is a mare who proved herself at the highest levels before becoming a broodmare.
We would like to commend all of the team at KatieRich farms who had Norah’s Code turned out beautifully for the sale. Their efforts showed the moment she walked the ring. She has a wonderfully confident way about her: a clean mover with a good walk. It will come as no surprise that we weren’t the only ones interested in her. But when the bidding was settled, we were delighted to take her home.
Since the Keeneland event, Norah’s Code is now starting. This is where the patient work begins from our team. If our plans hold, Norah’s Code will be ready to provide herself as a two-year old. With the bloodline behind her, we’re expecting plenty of people to be watching her when she reaches that point.
All of us at Bushman Thoroughbreds have been waiting for a filly like Norah’s Code. It’s not a moment we’re taking likely. She is now at home in our band, and we couldn’t be prouder to welcome her. Watch this space.
